3 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Using a Hardtail Mountain Bike
With only a front suspension system,
hardtail mountain bikes will ride quite differently from your regular mountain
bike. Because it rides differently, many people, even experienced bikers make
mistakes. These are some of the most common mistakes riders make:
- Riding stiffly
Hardtail mountain bikes in Vancouver are harder to ride
because of the unbalanced suspension system. As a result, many riders tend to
be too rigid when using these bikes. They tend to fight the flow of the
hardtail bike to deflect some of the bumps.
But if you are going to ride hardtail,
you need to embrace everything and that includes absorbing all those bumps. Try
loosening up. Lower your saddle so you can move around quite easily and follow
the movement of your bike.
- Locking up the brakes
Try to feather your brakes. A hard
brake can cut your balance. It won’t work anyway especially when taking those
sharp turns. Find those small pockets of grip. Once you find them, that’s the
time you go harder on the brakes to slow you down.
- Standing up while going uphill
Your first instinct when riding
uphill might be to get up and ride standing up. But this will weaken the bike’s
grip. The best thing to do is to sit back on the saddle. You would want to find
that perfect in-between spot so that you riding the saddle while going uphill
will not cause the front wheel to lift up.

mountain bike for you. Check out Bicycle Sports Pacific for some great options.
